we're "that" couple...

Kimmy

So I can't believe that I (Kimmy) have been back three months! It's been crazy!! I feel like I say that in every post that I put up - but it's true. I digress about that though...

One of the things that Dan and I love to do is go on coffee dates - before I left and even while in N.Africa, we would take time out of our crazy busy lives and head to a local coffee shop or brew a big pot of coffee and just chat or relax or play games together. While in N.Africa, I would brew the decaf (I was 5 hours ahead, gesh!) and we would chat through ichat or skype before I would head to bed.  It was just a time to reconnect - no distractions, nothing to do, just sit and chat and share life together. I LOVED those times. We could talk about everything and anything and most of the time, well it wasn't anything really super important.  Since I've been home, I must admit that we've only been on ONE real coffee "date". It's sad but true! Well, we've stopped in at Starbucks and gotten drinks to go, or Dan's brewed us a cup of coffee for our ride to church on Sunday mornings- but no set time to just go and grab coffee together...

We're becoming "that couple". To top that, THE whole time we were sippin coffee at Starbucks on our ONE coffee date, we were chatting about wedding stuff and all we need to do to prepare for the rather large day. So - it's official, we're that couple who, now that they are engaged and getting married,  all they talk about is the wedding and the planning...

Seriously...

I've been looking back through my previous blog post since returning and one thing that I am realizing is that relationships take work! They take time! They take creativity! They take communication! Sometimes, in many ways it was easier being so far apart - we knew we had to work at our relationship, we knew we had to be creative. Here -  the mundane life starts setting in and things get comfortable and easy and routine and I forget to be creative, I forget to take time to treasure special coffee dates with Dan, I get distracted by the fast pace of life and getting things checked off my "to do list"...

BUT- this week, I'm determined, Dan and I are going on a coffee date, NO talking about the wedding or the calendar, just pure enjoyment of our time together. Now, I better go and find what day is going to work best on my calendar.... ha!
