Be Still My Soul

Kimmy

I love books! Like absolutely love books and reading! I was reading a blog a few weeks back and came across Book Sneeze (www.booksneeze.com).They basically send you free books for reading their book and posting a review - hello- my kind of freebie!!

The first book I received was Then Sings My Soul by Robert Morgan. I would say in short that it's a hymnal meets history book meets devotional book. I wasn't super excited about this book initially. How do you begin to review a hymnal? Since receiving it and reading through it, and actually sitting down at the piano and playing through it, I love this book! Sweet hymns such as All Creatures of Our God and KingHe Leadeth Me, Praise to the Lord the Almighty - on and on, have been like honey for my soul lately. I never knew that Charles Wesley wrote the hymn, And Can It Be, and that Martin Luther wrote A Mighty Fortress is Our God. I thought that those men were just historians and theologians. I was wrong - really wrong.  The hymn that got me though was the sweet hymn, Be Still My Soul written by Katharina A. von Schlegel. As the devotion states, not much is known about this lady yet her words are so powerful and poignant.

Be Still My Soul, the Lord is on they side. Bear Patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to they God to order and provide. In every change He faithful will remain. Be still my soul, thy best, Thy heavenly friend thro' thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

What an encouragement for my weary soul. As I busily work on wedding plans, as I continue to adjust back to life in America, as I meet with friends and family and reconnect to life here in SC, as I heal and rest and decompress, I'm learning to leave it all to God and let HIM order and provide. What joy I have in knowing that HE is faithful in every change - and man, I have a lot of change happening! And what peace I have knowing that at the end (and even during) this crazy journey - God brings joy through the pain and the healing.

What a joy to read and play through this book. If you play the piano and/or love hymns - this is a GREAT book to add to your collection.  Now I am gearing up to play all the fun Christmas hymns included and loving that this book is now sitting on the piano in Dan and I's new home (well, new to me!) that we'll get to enjoy together in less than a month!!
