This past week, Dan got a little creative in the kitchen as usual and cooked up an excellent dish called Dan Dan Mian. I love that name, it just makes me giggle. At first, I thought he was making that name up, but in fact, he's not! There is actually a chinese dish that he had found on one of our favorite Chinese cooking websites, appetiteforchina.com. If you haven't used this website and love chinese food- you should! Like, right now!
It's a little bit of ginger, a whole lot of soy sauce, and scrumptious peanut butter - with a few other things added into the mix. It was amazing and we will definitely add the dish into our food journal. (We're keeping a handwritten journal of some of our favorite dishes so that we can remember to cook them again!) Dan did adjust the recipe a little, not because we thought it would be bad, but because we just didn't have a couple of the ingredients that it called for.
Here is our adapted ingredient list:
8 oz. pork, sliced thinly and cooked like you would stir-fry, not minced
1 tbsp. soy sauce
6 oz. vegetable oil
3 tbsp. garlic, chopped
2 tbsp. ginger, peeled and chopped
4 tbsp. onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp. peanut butter
2 tbsp. dark soy sauce
2 tbsp. sichuan sauce (instead of chili oil)
1 tsp. sesame oil
1 tbsp. sichuan peppercorns, ground finely
2 tbsp. salt
8 oz. chicken stock
12 oz. dry thin chinese egg noodles
1 handful roasted peanuts, finely chopped
