Growing up, my sweet mom (bless her!) use to always say at dinner time when I would snub my nose at something I thought was weird, "well, you won't know unless you try it..." I'm thankful for those words today. Dan and I have taken on that motto when it comes to cooking. We love to try new things and well, you won't know if it's good, if you don't give it a try.
Tonight was one of those nights. I wanted something different. Dan wanted something different. And so we set out to find a new recipe. We landed on Gingerbread Waffles. Honestly, I was a little nervous about them. They sounded yummy. The picture on the blog looked yummy. The ingredients seemed to go together well. AND who can go wrong with waffles?!? But you just never know...
As we sat down to finally eat, Dan offered up our blessing. His words, and I repeat... "Lord, thank you for my adventurous wife who is not afraid to fail in the kitchen..." Now, I'm not so sure how I feel about that prayer. Yes, it was sweet. I'm glad he's thankful. But - it wasn't a fail YET!?! We hadn't even taken a bite!!! We both laughed for a second and then began to dig into the new waffles.
They were good.
I wouldn't call them great.
We both decided to keep tweaking the recipe until they are better. So, it's not a fail YET... And we wouldn't have known unless we tried. We're learning and trying new things and while it sometimes leads to more "fails"- at least we tried, right?
